If you ever had school age children, you probably spent some time in October conducting a fire safety survey and making a few changes around your house. That’s because October is Fire Safety Month. Just because your children may be well past that age in school, it’s still important to conduct one of those fire safety survey every year or couple of years.
For your aging loved ones, a fire safety survey may be LOOOONNNGGG overdue!
Think about Grandma’s house. Could there be fire hazards lurking there that need to be corrected? Take this opportunity to maybe take the grandkids and do the survey at Grandma’s house. Help your grandparents resolve any issues, change the batteries in the smoke detectors and chalk it all up to helping Suzie or Joey with their homework.
Let us here at Keeping In Touch Solutions lend a hand. We love the daily contact we have with our clients, but know we can’t reach everyone so we figured if you don’t have children bringing you a checklist from school, you’ll need some guidelines. We have created a Fire Safety Checklist to help you make sure Grandma and Grandpa are safe in the place they call home.
Fire safety isn’t just replacing dead batteries in smoke alarms and discarding old rags stored dangerously next to the furnace. Fire safety also includes regular maintenance issues and daily habits, not to mention knowing what to do in the event of a fire.
Our checklist sets the stage for fire safety awareness and preparation. Have a conversation about emergencies and get a plan in place. The schools do it to protect children, we should do it to protect our families and aging loved ones in their homes, too.
So download the free checklist below and get busy. You’ll rest easier knowing Grandma and Grandpa are just a little bit safer when you lay your head on your pillow – and they probably will, too.
P.S. If you want more information about our daily check-in calls, schedule a complimentary consultation. We know what peace of mind it is for everyone when someone is checking on Grandma and Grandpa every day.
A daily check-in call could be the lifeline, the joy you give someone that makes the biggest difference in their perception of what old age is like.
